MUJHAY JEENAY DOH

It’s a serial which is touching many serious issues which have been made a part of our culture but at the same time educating people on their rights.

MJD is a story based on Saira’s life from an eight-year-old child to an eighteen-year-old grown woman.

It starts with Saira’s older sister dying at child birth and how Nasseb is pressurized by her family, Murad and Khuda bakhsh to take Saira as his wife for the sake of the motherless baby, which is a practice still followed in many rural areas regardless of the laws passed on child marriage.

Nasseb though is reluctant to go ahead with this arrangement but due to the immense pressure he agrees. Following which he keeps on getting irritated by Saira since she is still a child who is meant to play and go to school rather then look after another child or run a household.

To ease the situation, he marries Shahina who has gone through a turbulent marriage and on being beaten up by her husband in her last stage of pregnancy, loses her child and files a case against Mumdo, her husband.

Shaboo is her childhood friend who is the son of a lady health worker Yasmeen, on growing up they continue their friendship not realizing their likeness for each other is beyond a simple friendship.

Yasmeen is married to Iftikhar who has settled in the city and has remarried Saeeda of which Yasmeen has no clue till a latter part in the story, but due to her soft nature she accepts this relationship and moves on with life.

What follows is innocent romance, a lot of intricacies, suspense, immense drama and all the right ingredients that make up a successful drama.

Murad eventually murders Yasmeen due to her interference in the ways of the village and the system they believe in.

the villagers and family are not willing to understand Saira and Shaboo’s relationship and labels it as adultery. Here we question the panchayat system and how they wrongly take the law in their hands and pass judgement.

Due to that system Saira and Shaboo are punishable to bodily harm where Nasseb realizes his lack of understanding the life of a child who had to give up her childhood, her dreams to please him all her life and he decides to sacrifices his second wife Shahina to save Saira.

As the panchayat is about to punish Saira, Murad fuels them up to stone her alive, even though they realize it is not Saira but Shahina before them to serve Saira’s punishment, they give no heed to Nasseb’s intervention to protect Shahina, till Saeeda appears with the police as per her promise to the deceased Yasmeen to always protect Shaboo as her own.
